When Trevor decided to join the U.S. Army, he knew it would be a battle just to get in.  He was overweight, out of shape, and a long way from meeting the minimum physical standards required to enlist.  Since then, he’s lost 80 pounds, 11 inches around the waist, and gained a tremendous amount of strength and stamina across the board.  Months ago, a single pull-up seemed miles away for Trevor.  Now he needs a piece of chalk to keep track of them during workouts.  Consistent exercise and CrossFit have undoubtedly been a huge part of Trevor’s transformation, but that’s only part of the story.  He has also taken the time and effort to learn about improving nutrition, and has adopted a balanced, healthy, and effective lifestyle.  We can all take a lesson from Trevor’s mental fortitude and his desire to affect positive change.  Instead of wishing he was lighter, stronger, faster, and feeling better, Trevor has done what it takes to make it happen.  Overcoming setbacks, he remains focused on the goal.  Rather than simply satisfying the Army’s minimum physical standards, Trevor is poised to excel in Boot Camp.  He is well on his way to the place he wants to be.  Who says we can’t learn something from a 19-year-old?  Trevor ships out to Fort Jackson next week.  Go get ‘em Trevor!  More photos here.

Don’t Forget: Open Gym 9:00-11:00 Saturday, and M/W/F early class at 6:00 AM instead of 6:30 AM beginning next week.

Trevor, you have worked so hard and it has been a great experience to see the transformation! I’m proud! Gonna miss you!

    WOD Notes:
HSPU Progression Today = DB shoulder press, HSPU with feet on box, HS static hold, HSPU to abmat or ball

    PULLUPS:
If your hands are suspect, do ring rows with your feet elevated so that your body is horizontal.

Keep up the good work Trevor!

  3. colleen:

We are going to miss you Trevor. It is so awesome what you have done and no doubt you will keep getting stronger and more determined. Do great things Trevor!

  4. joey maggio:

Trevor, do not stop. Some people have the DNA to just eat whatever they want and stay thin and whatever. You are not one of those people. However you apparently have the gift of mental toughness. Very underrated gift my friend. U have the ability, mentally, to make yourself accountable to yourself when you look in the mirror. Having been in the military and worked for the government my whole adult life I can tell you that your gift of mental toughness will take you as far as you wanna go. You have a gift. Keep pushin that boulder up hill. allow yourself a smirk when you see those flashy people break down mentally in fort jack. Its about the long haul

  5. dana:

crossfit app for all you iphone users. Get your WOD on the go and it’s FFFRRRREEEEEEEEE

  6. Casey P:

Awesome progress Trevor. Best of luck on this next leg of your journey. And make sure to come back and visit us when you can!

So many incredible people, so many incredible stories. I really have a hard time thinking of one person to single out for this month. Of course, the breakfast club isn’t exactly a “huge” class (compared to some of the recent 5:30′s I’ve seen)…so I don’t get to see everyone I’d like to either.

In a way, I feel like it may be fitting to honor the one person that sits in the center of the family we call CFV – Adam! His attitude, smile, enthusiasm, and character are unparalleled. There are a lot of boxes out there…even in just our little corner of the world…but there’s a common reason we all keep returning to THIS one (and some of us come a pretty long way even). That’s my thoughts anyway.

  7. George:

Trevor you kick ass man. I would of never guessed you were 19. Maggio’s right. Mental strength and your determination is gonna separate you from the rest.

    Been a pleasure. Keep strong.

  8. Jess C:

My vote is for Ryan Smith. He is going for the Navy Seals, does multiple workouts each day, training for the affiliate team, is going to school, is kind and completed 14 benchmark wods with Adam in one day!!! And he is the only one I know that burps uncontrollably.

  9. Ryan:

Trevor, do everything over there with “speed and intensity”, even down to brushing your teeth or sleeping (hahaha). Do this and you’ll do fine. Don’t forget that you have everyone over here cheering for you and please keep us updated on how you’re doing.

I’m going to have to vote for my War Department, Margaret, for the Athlete of the month. Since she has a different semester schedule this time, she is at the box almost as much as I am, I think more even. She’s PR’d on all of her lift’s, can run a whole lot further without her allergies causing her to stop, and has been killing metcon WOD’s like Marines on the Taliban. I’ve even seen some crazy, focused, intense, looks on her face when facing adversity during a WOD. I’ve been with her for nearly 15 years now and have never seen her look so intense at times. I sometimes even see her coaching other women. Margaret has come a long way since she first started Crossfiting and I know she is far from being done.

  10. Peter O'Connor:

Keep it up Trevor…way to push yourself, staying disciplined, and wanting more each day. I wish you nothing but the best and cant wait to hear about your experience.

I am going to go with Ryan on this one and send my vote to Margaret. She has been there more and more this month, always pushing herself, and yes, picking up and dropping weight like its nothing. Margaret was also the one that toughed it through the hot, mid-summer academy with me and its great to see her going the distance. And Ryan sent me an email saying if I didnt vote for her he would beat me up….haha, kidding. Way to go Margaret, you’ve got my vote!

  11. dana:

I have never done a handstand so im wondering if i should go to my first class that is doing handstand pushups?

  12. SF Nathan:

I haven’t had the pleasure of completing a WOD with very many CFV athletes, but of the few I would vote for Ryan Smith. He’s a force to be reckoned with and always brings 110%. 14 WODs in a day is impressive but its his positive attitude and kind nature that really make him special. When I say special I mean like “Special Forces”

  13. Trevor:

thank you all so much for your sapport in my journey. ive never had a group of better friends to work out with. you all showed me how to work at high speed and high intensity! being at crossfit has changed my life and i waant to thank Admin personaly for sponsoring me and kicking my but every time i came in the gym, haha.

i vote for Ryan Smith for the Athlete of the month. hes the man, hes the guy every one else wants to look like i think any ways haha, and hes always positive and helpfull. Ryan Smith all the way.

  14. George:

Hey Nathan, whats SF stand for?

  15. Bridget:

Doesn’t SF = Super Fly? Super Fit? Super Fast? Sloth Fan? Sugar Fiend? Slays Fran? Stand Fast? Spectacular Friend? S(hut the) F (up)?

  16. Bridget:

Trevor – I will miss you for sure! I had no idea you were stepping up for the Army. I admire you so much, and am so proud of you. Do good things and know that we’re pulling for you and will always be your teammates!

  17. Jess C:

SF=State Farm. He is your friendly state farm neighbor.

  18. Bridget:

    Oh BORING!!!!

  19. George:

    Hhahahahaha!

  20. Maeghan:

Nice job Trevor! Good luck at Boot Camp, show ‘em what Crossfitters are all about!

  21. Adam:

    Dana-
You never have to ask if you can come to class! Even if you’ve never done something before, or it seems too crazy, there’s always something to learn and/or a way to scale. See ya soon!

  22. Adam:

I hear there were a number of DL PRs this morning and plenty of rope climbs, way to rock it. And good work making up the Deadlift-Pullup WOD Michael and Jessica.
