Hi, I’m Adam.  I’m the janitor and head coach here at CrossFit Fort Vancouver. Fitness is my passion, and CrossFit is by far the best medicine I’ve come across to fuel the fire.  Passing this unending pursuit of improved physical health on to others through CrossFit is my calling.  I love the daily pursuit of fitness, and the inherent challenge that comes with it is what makes me tick.  Anyone who shares this drive to move and improve is welcome here at CrossFit Fort Vancouver, regardless of background, age, ability level, or anything else.  Whatever your physical goals include, come make them happen at CFV.  This is your gym!

Hey! My name is Karen.  Thanks for checking out CrossFit Fort Vancouver!

It is funny that I end up here as I did not like PE as a kid and dreaded it when my mom would take me to swimming lessons.  My only sport was soccer for two years in middle school (yup, that’s right. I made it through two whole years of it J ); however, once I got out of high school, I started to realize how important fitness was to me. I couldn’t turn back the clock and join the track team or volleyball team, but I could at least find something in the fitness world that I enjoyed and watching the Ironman triathlon on TV got me motivated.

I started out as anybody would, going to the gym and lifting weights, doing some aerobics and running.  I did this for a long time.  There were also times when I just didn’t do any exercise.  Unfortunately (or fortunately as you will see), I started to get bored with the same gym routine and not feeling any better about myself.   I decided that maybe I would try some martial arts as watching all of those martial arts movies in the 80s made me want to learn to kick some butt (no it was not just because I had a crush on the Karate Kid).  I literally told myself for over 10 years that someday I would take martial arts (anyone know the “someday” feeling?). So after becoming a wife and a mom, my most favorite job, I finally kicked “someday” to the curb and now currently train in Krav Maga and have also trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  This made me even thirstier for some more challenges and wanting to make myself stronger for my sport.  CrossFit was the perfect thing for me; something different all the time (so no danger of any boredom there), always a goal to reach, people to motivate me, and knowledgeable trainers who genuinely care about seeing me excel and pushing my fitness level beyond what I ever expected (thanks to CrossFit Portland many times over for this).  Because of CrossFit I am stronger and healthier than I have ever been inside and out, I am surrounded by positive people, and I barely have time for movies or TV anymore J.

Come take a look at what CrossFit Fort Vancouver can offer you, whatever your fitness level or goals.  I look forward to seeing you!

George Corbo
CrossFit Level 1

USAW Sports Performance Coach

A couple years ago George packed his Trailblazer up with as much of his belongings as he could fit (more like as much of it he couldn’t throw out), his wife (fiance at the time) and his dog, and traveled cross country in 3 days flat to find a better life in the NorthWest. He found CrossFit and pretty much carved out a hole in the wall for himself. Spending more time in the box than anywhere else he quickly turned into the CrossFit gym rat living off of chalk and sweat. In doing so he learned the ins and outs of what it takes to achieve fitness goals and conquer obstacles. George trained at CrossFit Portland under Adam and the other trainers there and came to CFV in May when it opened in 2009. A couple certifications later and some time under his belt he decided to help other people achieve their fitness goals as he had done. He lives to see people push themselves past their limits, for that moment when things seem so hard you could easily quit. Those that do not have earned themselves a trainer who will do anything to see them succeed. Those that do quit will have someone to help pick them up and show them the way over that hill. Recently he has started an apparel company, Manimal, for the community of athletes he loves. He always finds a way to bleed on the bars, but we love him anyway. Don’t mind his sarcasm, 99% of the time he’s joking.

John Frieh

The formalities: John spends his days as a project manager for a local semiconductor company (or as he calls it “cube farming”).

Coaching: Upon the recommendation of a friend John was introduced to CrossFit in April 2007. He subsequently completed a Level 1 CrossFit Certification in September of 2007 and has been coaching since. In addition to CrossFit, John has amassed over 100 hours of private training and instruction with Mark Twight and Rob MacDonald of Gym Jones, Rob Shaul of Mountain Athlete, Steve Maxwell, and Dan John among others.

Slander and lies: John climbed his first mountain at the highly impressionable age of 14 and was subsequently introduced to rock climbing a year later. Fast forward ahead almost 20 years of road trips, speeding tickets, sleep deprivation, successes, failures, epics, first ascents, gallons of coffee and countless partners and John still climbs as much as his other obligations allow. And, of course, loving every minute of it. After his first week of CrossFit, John dumped his prior climbing training regiment and hasn’t looked back. He has been Crossfitting ever since.
