THE CrossFit Fort Vancouver STORY

What makes CrossFit Fort Vancouver different?

Our Mission

Our mission is to help people make their lives better through fitness. What we call CrossFit is a truly elegant solution to one of the world’s most vexing problems: we have the ability to combat chronic disease through simple exercise and nutrition, and it works!

Whether your goal is…

  • to climb a mountain or to climb the stairs in your house
  • to be a better soldier or a better grandmother
  • to lose 50 lbs. or gain 20
  • to win the CrossFit Games or the game of life

…we will meet you right where you’re at and help you improve.

Let’s do this!

Our Community

CrossFit Fort Vancouver is 8000 square feet of world-class CrossFit space right next to the historic Fort Vancouver in the heart of Vancouver, WA.

At CFV, we hang our hat on quality coaching and a caring community. Our talented staff is passionate about helping make people’s’ lives better outside the gym through the work we do inside it. Together, we are a community of positive, supportive, and humble individuals that care deeply about the well-being of others. We are driven to help one another to become not only fitter, but better in all aspects of life. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve every single person that walks through our doors.

Our Story

Outside our community, CrossFit Fort Vancouver is best known for our team’s competitive success on the worldwide stage at the CrossFit Games. In the first decade of the Sport of Fitness, no other team on the planet has qualified for the CrossFit Games more times or earned more top 5 finishes than we have. Our 2010 team won the Affiliate Cup and our 2017 team returned to the podium with a third place finish.

Our gym’s competitive success was born out of hard work and the pursuit of self-improvement. While our mission from day one has been to help people make their lives better through fitness, some of those among us have discovered great joy in putting that fitness to the test through competition. Local, regional, and international-level events have also given us the opportunity to test the efficacy of our training methods and we are proud of the consistent results year after year. We have always found our greatest strength in each other, so it’s no surprise that CrossFit Fort Vancouver’s greatest success in the Sport of Fitness has come through team competition.

We are very proud of the competitive success of our athletes, but our community’s most significant accomplishments don’t happen at the CrossFit Games. They happen on a daily basis in the gym when athletes exceed even their own expectations: first pull-ups, push-ups, and rope climbs; a full range of motion squat or new personal record or running a mile for the first time. Hitting a body weight goal, or the ability to do an everyday life task better or without pain—these are the things we celebrate together and that make every single day special at CrossFit Fort Vancouver.

At my core, I love to help, serve, and lead. I am a CrossFit Coach and I have the best job on the planet. Every day, I am blessed with the opportunity to help people make their lives better. It is my privilege to serve this community that has grown to identify much more as an extended family than a gym. I am honored to lead a team of passionate coaches that share the love for helping others through fitness as much as I do. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of those around me.

Outside the gym, I love spending time with my wife Lauren and our two daughters Emma and Hope. We especially enjoy the outdoors, hiking, camping, exploring, playing, laughing, and eating awesome food!

It’s my distinct pleasure to be one of the few coaches offering my services at CrossFit Fort Vancouver.  I consider it a great honor to serve my amazing community as a CrossFit coach, helping to motivate people to become the best version of themselves. I love to encourage individuals through hard work, commitment, and–whenever possible–humor.  I humbly accept the challenge of helping you accomplish your goals, and feel truly blessed to do so. I look forward to working with you.

When not at the gym and in my sweats, I enjoy spending time outside with my wife Megan and our two dogs, Bentley and Ollie.  We especially love discovering new restaurants and taking in sporting events.

Emma Baumert

If I had to sum up my love for coaching CrossFit, I’d say it’s about empowering people to say yes to life and fostering a strong sense of community.

SAY YES TO LIFE. When someone walks through the gym doors, they each have their own ‘why’. As a coach, my role is to provide guidance and support, so you walk out of the gym as a fitter and healthier version of yourself. It’s my goal to empower you to embrace any adventure life throws your way, whether it’s conquering a challenging hike or keeping up with your energetic kids.

COMMUNITY. At my core I believe that CrossFit has the power to inspire and unite people. There is something special about a group of people coming together for one hour a day to hustle hard and share post-workout high fives – it brings everyone together. The greatness of the CrossFit Fort Vancouver community comes from the people and I am endlessly thankful to be a part of this family of humble, hungry, awesome individuals.

ABOUT ME. I’m energetic, adventurous, and a bit of a science nerd. Throughout the past six years of coaching CrossFit, I have taken my love for fitness outside of the gym. From teaching human anatomy and exercise physiology classes at a university, to racing as a bobsled and skeleton athlete, to hiking, biking, and skiing all around the Pacific Northwest. Movement is at the core of my life. I’ve experienced the truth in the saying “movement is medicine” and it’s my passion to help other people on their journey to find that for themselves.

Hannah Dodson

Hi, I’m Hannah!

I am so honored and grateful that I get the opportunity to coach such an amazing CrossFit community at CFV. I love being able to help people achieve their goals while simultaneously building friendships with other athletes. While it’s amazing to be able to lift more weight or gain a new skill in CrossFit, what I love even more is CrossFit’s ability to allow people to do things that they love. Whether that’s chasing grandkids or climbing a mountain, CrossFit is an amazing foundation to be able to say yes to the adventures and whatever life throws your way outside the gym.

A little about me, I’ve done sports my whole life and found that CrossFit combined all my love of sports. For about 10 years I participated in track and field and went on to pole vault for 4 years in college. In addition to track and field, I ran cross country, did gymnastics, danced, swam, and did some weightlifting. If you don’t see me in the gym I’m most likely adventuring somewhere in the beautiful Northwest via mountain bike, running/hiking, or paddle boarding. In addition to all the adventuring I also love cooking and baking and drinking coffee from all the Portland and Vancouver coffee shops.

Kristina Metz

I love to exercise, teach, share my time and talents with others, and mostly I love to smile and laugh a lot!  My friends say I’m also really competitive.  As a high school tennis player, I saw a huge improvement in my game soon after starting CrossFit.  It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the fitness, the daily challenge, and the people that make CrossFit so great, either. After tennis, training helped fuel my competitive side and I eventually qualified for and competed at the CrossFit Games as a member of Team CrossFit Fort Vancouver in 2015. I got involved coaching around the same time and haven’t looked back since. Competing is fun but I really LOVE sharing the positive benefits of CrossFit with the Fort Vancouver community. Having the opportunity to help people make positive improvements in their lives by being a CrossFit Fort Vancouver coach allows me to combine my passion with my profession.

Outside the gym, I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my golden retriever Duke. Vancouver is my home; I’ve lived here my entire life and love everything about the Great Northwest!

Coach Eric is the Head Coach of our Olympic Weightlifting Program and the CrossFit Fort Vancouver Barbell Club. Having dedicated most of his life to the sport of Weightlifting, it is an absolute privilege for our community to be blessed by the expertise and leadership that Coach Eric provides.

Originally from American Samoa, Coach Eric began lifting at a young age. After setting one national record after another, Coach Eric set his sights on international level competition. He qualified for and competed in the Olympics twice: 1992 in Barcelona and 1996 in Atlanta. He also placed 13th in the 1993 World Weightlifting Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

As amazing as Coach Eric’s athletic accomplishments in the sport are, his passion for coaching is unmatched. Coach Eric has a true love for people and for weightlifting. It shines bright not only in his athletes’ performance, but in the family that he has created through the CFV Weightlifting Program. Coach Eric defines our ethos of being humble, hungry, and awesome to the core, and we are all blessed by his presence in our community.

Haley Vilhauer

Fitness has always been my best source of fun as well as a huge part of my mental and spiritual training! My journey into CrossFit was a rather unexpected one, in the sense that I didn’t know what I was missing until I tried my first class back in 2013. At the time, I was just six months postpartum after our third child was born, I found myself running alone, in the early morning hours, in order to make time for exercise. After decades of distance running on teams, and then marathon training on my own, I was so intrigued and excited when I encountered the CrossFit community…the cheering and high-fives that happened in my first class had me wanting more and I quickly became a regular at the morning classes!

When I’m not exercising, you will find me in my other passion- coaching clients on holistic nutrition and high performance and teaching classes for our local community. I get a lot of joy out of helping others improve their health, develop new skills, heighten their awareness and grow their fitness and confidence. I have been coaching individuals, families, workplaces and teams for over 18 years and consider it a privilege to be able to help others strengthen their mind, body and spirit.

Outside of my work and the gym, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three kiddos, often cooking up new foods in the kitchen or outside supporting our kids in whatever sport is currently in season! You will also find me leading the local non-profit Faith RXD, along with our awesome team, as my passion project that has further given my CrossFit journey a deeper meaning and purpose!!

Jessica Core

Hi Everyone! I go by Jess, Jessica, Core…you name it. I am married with a son named Vedder (yes after Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam) and my daughter Sophia. I have worked as a Registered Nurse in the operating room for 10 years and I love it! I have been with CrossFit Fort Vancouver since the doors opened in 2009. During the years of 2009-2018 I competed individually or with the CrossFit Fort Vancouver team at the CrossFit Games for 8 of those years. The other two years, I had my kids!

Since then I have challenged myself in other ways such as running two marathons and becoming a certified nutrition coach. I thrive on structure, efficiency and might be the first to nicely call you out on making excuses :)

I have been meal-prepping as long as I can remember and it continues to evolve every year. It didn’t take me long to realize that meal prepping provided me 80% consistency of eating whole/minimally processed foods and gave me the emotional, social freedom for the remaining 20%. I also like that it is super efficient to have my breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks already prepared for a 12 hour hospital shift.

No, I am not always fitness and food obsessed. I also enjoy coffee, wine tasting, watching series/movies with the family, casino stops for a little black jack and taking vacations. However, I do have a deep passion for overall health and wellness. I don’t believe in “diets” as that is assuming it starts and ends. I believe in self awareness, self compassion and restructuring habits to support your goals.

I love the saying that when you feel the need to declutter, get rid of clothes or get a new haircut…it means you are making room for something new, literally and figuratively speaking.

It brings me excitement and joy to provide you support, accountability and help along the way to achieve your health and nutrition goals, because you know what? You will!
