Joél fights hard to stay tight during some handstand shoulder taps. Handstands are one of those movements that people seem to either love or hate. Because they are scalable to beginners, elite athletes, and everyone in between, they are a fantastic addition to any exercise program! Here are our top 5 reasons to practice and develop your handstand.

  1. They develop wicked upper-body strength!
  2. They improve balance!
  3. They develop rock-solid functional core strength and stability!
  4. They improve bone health (weight-bearing exercise), blood circulation, and breathing!
  5. They are fun so they make us happier (more blood flow to the brain)!

So pretty much, handstands are awesome and we'll all be even more awesome too if we get better at them! Today we are working some upper-body pressing strength right-side-up, but don't be surprised to see a handstand or two in your warm-up! And if you're looking for just the right modification, Gymnastics Skills class on Wednesdays at 11 AM is a great place to start! See you in the gym!
